Fish culture

Fish culture generally means the rearing and taking care of fishes in internal fresh water.Identifying external characters of fishes.i. Boat or spindle shaped body:
The mid portion of the body is wider and the two ends are gradually narrows. This type of body shape help in the movement in water.

ii.Various types of fins:
A pair of pectoral fins and a pair of pelvic fins take part in swimming. Besides these they have dorsal fins, an anal fin and a caudal fin. These fins control the direction of movement.

iii.Various types of scale:
Small or large type of scale are present in different fishes. There are some fishes which are devoid of scales.

iv.Mucous: Mucous is a slimy, liquid substance secreted from the body of fishes which helps in the protection of fishes.

V.Lateral line organs: On the either sides of the body of fishes there is a long lateral line below which are located sensory cells. These lines can perceive the conditions of surrounding medium.
The sources of fresh water fishes of Bangladesh.
As the source of fresh water fishes, the Padma, Meghna, Jamuna, Barmaputra, Karnafuly etc. are worth mentioning.They are also found in large numbers in small rivers, Ponds, Canals, Jheels etc of the country.In the kaptai lake, haors and Jheels of Sylhet and Barisal, large number of carp fishes and their fries are available.
